La Jolla, Cove Beach & Its Sea Lions

La Jolla, Cove Beach & Its Sea Lions

If you ever happen to drive south on PCH from Orange County to San Diego, La Jolla is definitely a must stop.

Not only is this a cute town, with a nice, little walkable downtown and some eclectic juiceries and healthy food spots, if you head to Cove Beach you can witness some natural wonders that you’d expects to only see in the wilderness.

Where else can one see dozens of sea lions yawning in the sun and laying right next to hosts of pelicans lined up on the white rocks and fixating on the horizon with their intense gaze?

If it wasn’t for the surfers paddling on their boards way too close to the swimming trajectories of these gigantic mammals, you would think you are in some secluded beach where humans have no access.

And instead you are in San Diego County, right in the middle of some real deal traffic, urbanization and high end shopping action.

It almost seems like these wild animals, by fiercely declaring possession of their territory with their sheer presence, are trying to tell us to slow down, to avoid building the umpteenth shopping center, throwing concrete on the dirt and scattering cookie cutter homes all over.

They just sit there looking at the Ocean, oblivious to the many tourists Snapchatting them, and they send us a silent reminder that if we stopped destroying the nature around us, we would all feel more connected and in syntony with the world.

Today it’s Earth Day. What do you think?
